The
Bijoya Sammilani was organized on 22nd October
2005 at 6 pm at the Calcutta Club. Around 250 alumni and
their family members joined the function and enjoyed the
High Tea. The function, anchored by Shri Bivas Chaudhuri
and Smt. Urmi Chatterji, included a Sitar recital by
Smt. Mita Nag, and Rabindra-sangeet by Smt. Rajasree
Bhattacharya, both alumni of our college, and, of course
an adda session. Radio Mirchi was the Radio
Partner of the event. The function got good publicity in
the newspapers and Radio
Mirchi. |

During
25-27 November, 2005 an excursional trip to Santiniketan
was conducted to stage a research-based programme on
Baul & Rabindranath, entitled Moner Manush,
in collaboration with Visva-Bharati ashramites and our
friends at Santiniketan. Shri Nityapriya Ghosh, our
alumnus, composed the script. The function was held on
26 th November 2005 at the House of our alumnus Shri
Anindya Mitra at Santiniketan. The recitations were
performed by Smt. Shanta Sen, Smt. Sahana Sen and Shri
Avik Ghosh, all our alumni; Rabindra-sangeet by Smt.
Swastika Mukhopadhyay and Shri Sandip Sen of Visva
Bharati and baul songs by Shri Debdas and Shri Lakhandas
of Bolpur. Shri Dilip Roy of Santiniketan (the grandson
of Late Rajanikanto Sen) also performed in the function.
Our alumni and their family members from Kolkata and
Santiniketan and important personalities of Santiniketan
attended the programme. Shri Anindya Mitra and his wife
Smt. Nandini Mitra hosted a dinner for all. The function
was first of its kind and was covered by Doordarshan and
two other TV channels. Doordarshan telecast the
programme on 10th December 2005 and 11th December 2005.
Visva Bharati authorities helped us in reserving
accommodation at their guesthouses. |

Film
Show and Panel Discussion:
A panel discussion titled- "How far the films of Bengal
have attained the international standard in terms of
sheer aesthetics and not in terms of the Awards they
bagged" was organized on 11th December 2005
(Sunday) at 5 pm at Nandan-II. It was followed by a show
of the film Mr. & Mrs. lyer (Dir.: Aparna Sen). The
discussants were Shri Shankarlal Bhattacharaya, Shri
Samik Bandopadhyay, Sm. Aloknanda Ray and Sm. Aparna
Sen, all our alumni. The event was anchored by Sm.
Shanta Sen and Sm. Sahana Sen. The event received a good
amount of media attention. |

Udayan
Mukherjee Memorial Debate:
On 16 December 2005, Udayan Mukherjee Memorial Debate
Competition (Past vs Present Students) was held, in
collaboration with the Presidency College Debating
Society, at Bankim Sabhagriha, Presidency College,
Kolkata. Shri Parthasarathi Sengupta, our alumnus,
endowed Rs. 1,00,0001.00 to the college to create this
annual debate competition in memory of our alumnus Late
Udayan Mukherjee. The topic of the debate was: In
the opinion of the house: Indian judiciary is developing
a habit of overstepping its jurisdiction. Shri
Asit Ranjan Bandopadhyay, IAS (Retd.), former Director,
National Library, Kolkata; Prof. Amal Kumar
Mukhopadhyay, former Principal, Presidency College,
Kolkata; Shri Jawhar Sircar, IAS, Principal Secretary,
Department of Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal and
Shri Subrata Talukdar, Advocate, Calcutta High Court
represented the team-alumni who spoke against the
motion. The present students' team consisted of Shri
Milinda Banerji, Shri Subhadip Chakrabarti, Sm. Surma
Guha and Shri Dibyadyuti Ray. The Judges were Justice
Chittotosh Mookherjee, former Chief Justice, Bombay High
Court; Shri Rathin Sengupta, IAS (Retd.), former Chief
Secretary, Govt. of West Bengal and Prof. Jashodhara
Bagchi, Chairperson, Women's Commission, West Bengal.
Prof. Prasanta Roy acted as the Moderator. The present
students' team won the debate. |

Past
Vs Present Cricket Match:
The Annual Cricket Match between the past and the
present students was held at the College ground on 14th
January 2006. The present students won the
match. |

Founders'
Day celebration and Re-union Tea:
The Founders' Day of the college and Reunion for the
year 2006 were celebrated on 20th January 2006.
Shri Subir Raha, Chairman and MD, ONGC, was the
President and Prof. Tapan Raychaudhuri, eminent
Historian, acted as the Chief Guest. Alumni A colourful
cultural programme was organized by the past and present
students. |

On
22nd January 2006 a grand steamer party was organized on
the Hoogly river. The alumni, their family members and
friends thoroughly enjoyed through various cultural
performances and by ruminating past memories. The boat
left Babughat at 9:30 am and returned at 5 pm after
touring southwards. |

The
eminent historian Prof. Tapan Raychaudhuri, an alumnus
of our college, was felicitated on his completing 80
years of age. Prof. Raychaudhuri, presently at Oxford,
remains a close associate of the Association and happens
to be the current Editor-in-Chief of the Autumn Annual.
Several eminent alumni, like Dr. Pratap Chandra Chunder,
Prof. Rajat Kanto Ray, Shri Parthasarathi Sengupta,
Prof. Supriya Chaudhuri, Shri Suranjan Das and Shri
Jawhar Sircar spoke on this occasion. Dr. Jyortirmoy Pal
Chaudhuri anchored the programme. A silver plaque
engraved with a special message and an 'uttorio' were
given to him on this occasion. |

Annual
Cultural Programme:
On 9th April 2006, to commemorate the 55th Foundation
Day of the Alumni Association, a cultural night was
organized at a fully packed Sisir Mancha. The programme
consisted of a flute recital by Shri Dilip Naha,
presently Head of the Department of Bengali, Presidency
College and a research-based collage scripted by Shri
Nityapriya Ghosh, entitled Sami-r Prithivi. The
participants were as follows: recitation by Shri Bivas
Chakrabarty, Smt. Alaknanda Ray, Shri Abhijit
Mukhopadhyay, Shri Parthasarathi Roychoudhury and Smt.
Sahana Sen; songs were delivered by Srn. Chitralekha
Choudhury, Smt. Rajasree Bhattacharya, Shri Prabuddha
Raha, Smt. Suchhanda Ghosh, Smt. Shanta Sen, Shri Subir
Mukhopadhyay, Smt. Basabi Bandyopadhyay, Shri Tathagata
Chakrabarty, Shri Ranjan Kumar Ray, Smt. Ranjini Lahiri,
Smt. Semanti Ghosh and Shri Samantak Ghosh; the dancers
included Smt. Arupa Lahiri, Smt. Nabaneeta Ghosh, Shri
Partha Sharma, Shri Parantap Sarkar, Smt. Prakriti Guha
and Smt. Moubani Pal. The entire programme was
coordinated by Smt. Shanta Sen. |
